Community Helps Run Hunger Out of Town at New Haven Road Race

The Middlebury, Connecticut Run Club, in partnership with Global for Good, raised $3,176 for DESK, matched up to $2,500 by Stop and Shop! Middlebury Run Club and Global for Good members used DESK’s table as a home base. Christian Monahan of Global Partners, who began his involvement with DESK as a quarterly volunteer at our nightly dinner service in the Drop-in and Resource Center, helped organize the Middlebury Run Club’s fundraising efforts for DESK. “A couple years ago, I got connected with DESK and immediately fell in love with the organization and everyone I met there and the staff. And then we just kept continuing and growing our support for DESK. And it evolved into what we have here today, which is about 50 runners, a combination of a run club I started called the Middlebury Run Club and a bunch of runners from Global.” Christian sets an example of how volunteers can find ways to use their talents, skills, and interests to support their New Haven neighbors!

DESK staff and board member Denise Dean greeted New Haveners running and cheering on their friends, seeing old friends or meeting new partners interested in volunteering, donating, or hosting a drive for DESK. Watch this interview with Denise to learn more about her relationship with DESK!

Miss the road race this year? We hope to see you next year, but in the meantime, get involved with DESK by signing up here!
