At DESK, our volunteers don’t just cook and serve dinner for hundreds of neighbors each night. Just as central are the supporters who take initiative to use their talents in creative ways to bring people together for our mission!

Local band The Flatts held a benefit concert for DESK on September 18 at the New England Brewing Company in Woodbridge. How did a band end up supporting DESK? Scott McLean is DESK’s former board chair and the namesake of the McLean Society, an honorary group established by the Board of Directors to highlight individuals with an extraordinary commitment to DESK. He’s also The Flatts’ harmonica and saxophone player, and each year, he plans a benefit concert!

We raised $1,448 at the event, catching up with old friends who frequent DESK’s events and meeting new friends attending their first event. That is enough for DESK to provide 241 meals, almost a full night of dinner in our Drop-in and Resource Center and the New Haven Green.
