DESK volunteers bring a lot of unique talents to our organization, from cooking to serving food to even photography and data analysis. One volunteer’s talent for organizing makes our food distribution operation more efficient and streamlined to serve the needs of our guests.

Anthony Allen began volunteering on Sunday afternoons to process donations during the busy holiday season. After a few sessions, though, Anthony realized he could apply his organizational skill to DESK’s inventory. Thanks to the generosity of individual and corporate donors, and the high need of the New Haven community, DESK’s storage space at 260 State Street constantly receives new food as quickly as it goes out. Anthony realized that Sunday afternoons were the perfect time to evaluate what had come in and gone out throughout the week and better organize the space to be prepared for the week ahead. He recently passed 50 hours of volunteering and has even helped train other volunteers to organize the space.
